Nature Walk Trails

With the help of resident guides, Lake Kasenda Lodge provides an exciting guided nature walks and activities within and around the lodge. There are four nature walk trails within the lodge that include; two forest trails, a lake trail, and mountain hiking trail.

  • The forest trail takes 1 – 2 hours nature walk in the deep Kasenda Forest Reserve, observing the indigenous trees that are medicinal, and spotting Black & White colobus monkey, Red colobus monkey, Red tailed monkey, and Velvet monkey, birds and other wildlife species like leopard and bush baby that move at night. Francis' Trail is the shorter forest trail that takes an hour and half, while Lule's Trail – the longest forest trail, takes up to 2 hours of nature forest walk.
  • Lake trail takes an hour or more nature walk around lake Kasenda, watching water birds & other bird species like king fisher, eagle, snake species like cobra, python, black mamba & reptiles, and monkeys. Sports fishing and swimming are some of the other activities you can participate in while on this trail.
  • Mountain hiking trail takes 1 – 2 hours hiking to the top the mountain, viewing the surrounding at 3600. Enjoy an aerial view of the site (the lodge), and all the crater lakes in the area and nearby attractions like Kibale & Queen Elizabeth National Parks, Snow capped Rwenzori Mountains, Kasese town, Lake Edward & Lake George, and the local community.

Crater Lakes Exploration

Crater Lakes exploration trail takes up to 4 hours exploring over 9 crater lakes in the Kasenda crater lakes area, walking through coffee and banana plantations, vanilla farms & processing plant. On this trail, We'll also visit the local communities, villages and hiking several other scenic view points, while watching birds along the way. Crater lakes offer breath-taking scenery and outstanding opportunities to observe the unique animals, birds and plants in the area.

Birdwatching

Spend the entire days watching the birds and primates around the lodge. For those who prefer to watch birds in large numbers, we offer bird watching safari to Bigodi and Kihingami wetland sanctuaries, near to the Lodge. The trail takes up to 3 hours of scenic nature walk. The sanctuaries are excellent destinations for bird watching with over 200 species of birds including the Great blue turaco, papyrus gonolek, and white-winged warbler.

Chimpanzee tracking

Chimpanzee tracking is a fascinating experience, as you spend a number of hours tracking and observing these impressive creatures in their natural habitats, swing from one tree to another, feed, and play on the ground. We offer Chimpanzee tracking safari to Kibale National Park which is very close to the Lodge. The park has 95% of Chimpanzee population in East Africa. It is a life-changing experience in this tourism region of Uganda.

Camping

Camping is an exciting experience, as it gives you a true understanding of what it means being in the wilderness. Imagine setting up a camp on the shores of a lake, or in the forest and watching your wild neighbours, mostly birds and monkeys, rejoicing around you! You can come with your own camping equipment and set up your tent at our designated campsites. Lake Kasenda camping pitch has campfire, barbecue kitchen, and all the facilities you may need. You'll hear birds singing, and watch animals roaring and moving at night.
